Massachusetts OHV Registration

Massachusetts OHV Registrations

Massachusetts laws, Chapter 90b, require vehicles operated for recreation off-road or on unimproved roads, on public and private property, to be registered as an ATV through the Massachusetts Environmental Police Bureau of Registrations.

This photo shows what you need to know. The Jeep is a street registered vehicle used off a public way. Therefore, it has an up to date ATV Registration Decal on each front fender.

Mohawk 4×4 Adventures, Inc will begin to require members and all vehicles or guests used for off-roading to be registered beginning May 15th, 2021.  Until then, we highly recommend it for operating off-road in this state, for public and private property.  You may be subject to tickets or worse by law enforcement without it! This is your responsibility to be legal when off-roading in Massachusetts.

25% of registration fees are allocated to a fund for land acquisition and trail opportunities within Massachusetts.  25% of the fund must be used each year for its mission.

Registration is easy to complete by mail, as long as your rig meets the requirement of a valid street registration in your home state.  Some registrations require an exemption of sales tax form is submitted along with your vehicle registration. This just proves that you have paid sales tax if it was required and the vehicle is not stolen.  Our club does also require proper registration in your state (license plates, etc), so it should be a straightforward process for members to register 4WD vehicles used in the club.  The decals are to be permanently affixed to each front fender.

You receive two decals for your vehicle with your registration number, one expiration date, and a card you must carry with you that is your permit.
