You can’t park there! December 3rd, 2025

On Nov 29,2025, Mohawk 4×4 Adventures was conducting part of our Annual Mohawk Trail Challenge, to benefit the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, within the Warwick State Forest. We found this abandoned Jeep Grand Cherokee at an intersection of a Forest Road and The New England National Historic Trail. Notice that they also cut through these old growth trees. We would need to address this right away, before the vehicle was stripped in the woods, but during our fundraiser was not that time.
We provided the VIN to MA Environmental Police, Dept of Conservation and Recreation and the State Police. We filed a criminal complaint, as well. We coordinated the removal by a tow truck, but would need to get it to a paved road about 3 miles away.
On Wednesday, Dec 3rd, 2025, two club officers set out to pull this thing to the closest road. The tire was flat and wouldn’t inflate, and came off the rim during the long journey to pavement.
Most of the windows were broken where it was abandoned. The volunteers that pulled this crime scene broke several recovery straps. Pulling close to 4,000lbs out of the woods, over rocks, logs and uphills was very hard on all equipment involved, due to the amount of vehicle damage.
We notified the neighbors and consulted with them before parking this here, in front of their house. They were quite helpful and also let us park a truck in their driveway for the day. The DCR Field Operations Team Leader and a DCR Ranger met us at the pavement to write a report.

Mohawk 4×4 Adventures is very fortunate to be able to work closely with the Dept of Conseration and Recreation personell. Our club holds a Volunteer Stewardship Agreement with them, to help preserve access on the Public Right of Ways in the Erving State Forest Complex.

With the VSA, we are able to volunteer for projects at their direction and identify projects for sustainable, legal access. Mohawk 4×4 Adventures has at least three project ideas that we are making plans for, to be approved. Signage for the legal Public Right of Ways, a clean-up project on a hill, and the replacement of a long lost bridge that was originally built about 250 years ago.

The Pallet Palace – There’s over 70 pallets here and they have to be removed. This is being planned for our 2026 Earth Day event.
