2023 Earth Day at Old Florida Rd

Old Florida Rd is a very difficult legacy trail in Western Massachusetts. Mohawk 4×4 Adventures partnered with T.R.E.A.D. Lightly and the Quadratec 50/50 Trails Program, Massachusetts Dept of Conservation and Recreation, and Delmolino and Sons Trash Removal to execute this large scale clean up.
The club is grateful for all of the volunteers that came to help!
Oh, look. It’s Ladyface and that clown, Mike. Lara is our secretary and Mike is our president. They’re supposed to be working but for some reason are pictured having fun.
Our clean up stretched up and down the paved road, and onto private property across the street. Volunteers wanted to make sure the WHOLE trailhead area was clean.
It’s a pretty steep drop over the guardrail. Our volunteers dragged trash, tires and more up the hill for proper disposal. We will return to this location at some point to remove tires. Dozens of tires are buried in leaves all along this hillside. It’s not even the trail, it’s that it is on a friendly abutter’s property and it’s trail adjacent.
This picture needed to be included! What an awesome, antique Toyota Land Cruiser and volunteers in the woods on the abutter’s property, doing the right thing.
This is the result of about 40 hours of volunteer labor. After this, Mohawk 4×4 Adventures would go on to complete the Old Florida Rd trail. Trash along the trail was minimal, as a result of increased awareness by users since 2021.
It was an honor to have Jo-Marie come out from New York. She is a very accomplished adventurer, event planner and overlanding expert. She signed up through TREAD Lightly’s announcement, worked hard, wheeled hard and supported this effort 100%.
